Official British Columbia Coaches Week Proclamation

The Province of British Columbia has again issued an Official Proclamation for British Columbia Coaches Week.

BC Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Hon. Ida Chong presents the 2011 BC Coaches Week proclamation to Coaches BC Executive Director, Gord May


The Proclamation states:

To all to whom these presents shall come - Greeting

WHEREAS the Coaches Association of British Columbia is focusing on recruiting, developing and celebrating coaches through a number of activities across British Columbia during September 17-24, 2011, and

WHEREAS the B.C. Policy on Sport and Physical Activity and our sport system recognizes the importance of coaches in an athlete's personal and professional development, and

WHEREAS our collective goal is to ensure that every sport participant is led by a competent, certified and trained coach at every level of sport in B.C., and

WHEREAS the Province promotes participation in sport and physical activity as a valued way of life - one that upholds the significance of such activities as bringing important health and social benefits to our society, and

WHEREAS coaches are valued contributors to the health and social welfare of children and youth in this province, and

WHEREAS an athlete's enjoyment of, and success in sport are to a large extent shaped by good coaching and these positive experiences clearly lead to life-long involvement in sport and physical activity, and

WHEREAS the Coaches Association of B.C. represents over 40,000 coaches in the province, of which about 98 per cent are volunteers - and more than 190,000 coaches have received National Coaching Certification Program training, and

WHEREAS the Province supports opportunities for coaches, with an emphasis on promoting opportunities for Aboriginal, female, disability-sport and regional coaches, and

WHEREAS the Province hosts major events from BC Games to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; from the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games to the 2015 Canada Winter Games which will showcase the life-long investments that coaches at every level have made to our athletes' development on the road to these Games and other national and international competitions, and

WHEREAS Our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executivve Council, is pleased to enact Order in Council 903 on October 11, 2002;

NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that September 17 - 24, 2011, inclusive, shall be known as

"British Columbia Coaches Week"
